Hello, my name is Alex.

I’ve been lucky enough to work on the music of projects like Venom: The Last Dance, Joker: Folie à Deux, The Family Plan, and more, but that probably says as much about me as that time I got cut from my high school baseball team, twice. What it doesn’t say is how much I love stories, or how enthusiastic I am about synths, or how difficult it’s been trying to reconcile the two worlds within me - and how truly grateful I am that I get to make music for a living. This website is a home for my many curiosities to be discovered, and I hope you’ll join me.

about

Alex Liu is a composer, music producer, song-writer, and singer based in Los Angeles, CA. A chance encounter with mixing great Dave Pensado led him to forego his science background in favour of music, and he soon began his music career working on pop music production and song-writing.

After studying under American composer David Conte, one of the last students of the renowned music pedagogue Nadia Boulanger, at the San Francisco Conservator of Music, Alex transitioned from pop music to the scoring scene and has quickly become a sought after voice in the industry. He has been a frequent collaborator of composer, Nick Urata (lead singer of the band DeVotchka), composing additional music for the Emmy-winning film Quiz Lady and arranging for Warner Bros.’ Joker: Folie à Deux, the highly anticipated sequel to the Oscar-winning original.

Most recently, Alex has collaborated with Dan Deacon on Sony’s Venom: The Last Dance, and with Kevin Matley on the upcoming Den of Thieves 2: Pantera.

Aside from his film and TV work, Alex has an active interest in video games, and interactive media and storytelling. In 2024 he composed for Luxi Liu’s, synthesia, a VR game inspired by the phenomenon of synesthesia that uses more senses afforded by VR technology to train the ear.
